Brut Nature Cumières Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon Louis Roederer Philippe Starck Pinot Noir

Premiere – 2006 Louis Roederer ‘Brut Nature’

It’s not every day that one of the great houses launch a new champagne. In fact it’s 40 years since last time that Champagne Louis Roederer has launched a new one.

Louis Roederer Brut Nature 2006 conveys elegance and authenticity – in an exclusive collaboration with Philippe Starck.

With Louis Roederer Brut Nature 2006 presents a unique champagne that captures the interplay of nature and creativity in a meeting between Louis Roederer and the world’s leading French designerPhilippe Starck.. When a champagne takes form it gets the wine’s style usually with a last touch of liqueur de dosage – a mixture of wine and sugar. The dosage depends on the vintage; sometimes added very little, and in exceptional cases – none at all.

The vintage 2006 was peculiar for many different reasons. Weather invited contrasts of temperature, rain and sun which ultimately led to a rare promising harvest. The house sourced Pinot Noir from Cumieres that achieved a perfect ripeness that offers deep aromas and fine texture. This so much that Louis Roederers Chef de Caves, Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon decided to let nature show its course by completely rule out the liqueur de dosage. This makes Champagne exceptional in its style, since it expresses and captures the spirit of its habitat Cumieres, where Pinot Noir downloaded the great complexity and wealth. In addition is completed champagne with purity and elegance of Chardonnay.

‘ – Cuvée Brut Nature 2006 combines the fruit of historical terroir and a remarkably good vintage with respect for nature and a creative genius with a free mind ‘– says Frédéric Rouzaud, Managing Director, Louis Roederer.

To reflect Brut Nature 2006 visually, Louis Roederer had a close collaboration with Philippe Starck, who share the champagne house’s quest for authenticity.

‘- I have always admired Philippe’s creative genius, I familiarized myself with the previous projects he has been a part of. I appreciate his unique style, showing just the right balance between the strategic freedom and respect for a field. When we first met I was convinced that we could cooperate. then, when Philippe declared that he only drank champagne without dosage, everything fell apart. we have focused on this project since 2003 and can now finally present a Louis Roederer cuvée, based on it’s genuine terroir ‘ explains Frédéric Rouzaud.

Both Louis Roederer and Philippe Starck share the philosophy of authenticity and respect for nature. – The bottle of Brut Nature 2006 reflects its content, and because the content is so potent, I decided to design a bottle without superfluous embellishment, explains Philippe Starck. He has chosen an untreated and unpainted closing the shades of gray to convey the cuvée elegance and authenticity. The label is inspired by Japanese paper where the most important words highlighted in color and the remaining words are given a transparent expression to arouse curiosity. Louis Roederer Brut Nature 2006 reflects both an amazing adventure as a complete creation of a unique champagne.
